"Microorganisms are everywhere in our environment and thrive in cool dark places..."
Dr. Glass, PhD, Professor of Pathology, Oklahoma State University.
We are now in an age when people have become more and more health conscious and cognizant of the danger of exposing themselves and loved ones to various germs, bacteria and viruses. Media reports on avian flu, anthrax, SARS, and other contagious diseases fuel this trend. The increasing popularity of sterilizing products such as anti-bacterial soaps and air-sterilizers demonstrate this trend. In March of 2006, the International Housewares Association held their annual trade show in Chicago. According to news reports, the hot topic of conversation revolved around household products that sterilize, protecting the consumer from germs, viruses and bacteria. One consultant to the Association said, ‘The one place people expect to feel safe is in the home.’ Smart Products seeks to capitalize on the emergence of UV sterilization and the existing and growing awareness of germs as a threat in the home.
Our initial products are focused in the toilet brush and plunger market. Over the last two decades, there has been a shift in toilet brushes and plungers being sold in containers. These containers are decorative in nature and come in different shapes and sizes, but offer no sanitation features. When a contaminated wet toilet brush or plunger is placed in a damp, dark environment such as a container, the corner of a bathroom, or under a sink, it becomes a thriving breeding ground for these germs, viruses and bacteria to multiply. Toddlers, children, pets, as well as adults, who come in contact with toilet brushes or plungers can become sick or contaminate others. Our Field Market Research report, conducted in three Southern California counties, proved the overwhelming acceptance by the consumer of our initial products, with a 78% to 81% approval rating. By field market testing standards, an approval rating over 75% is considered a homerun.
Currently, the worldwide market in this industry is over $1 billion. There are hundreds of millions of toilets in the world, and thus the market is far reaching. With our other UV home products, we will have additional large market opportunities.
